Yesterday, [[Spain|Spanish]] [[Madrid|capital]] [[football (soccer)|football]] club [[Real Madrid]] announced [[Portugal|Portuguese]] winger and captain [[Cristiano Ronaldo]] has signed a five-year contract extension which runsrunning through June 2021.
 
Ronaldo joined ''Los Blancos'' in the summer of 2009 from [[England|English]] club [[Manchester United F.C.]], for a world -record fee thenat the time. Since then, he has netted 371 goals for therethe club. Spending seven seasons with Real Madrid, Ronaldo has won two [[UEFA Champions League]] trophies —, both against their city rivals [[Atlético de Madrid]], and one [[La Liga]] title. He has also won two {{w|Copa del Rey}}, one {{w|Supercopa de España}}, {{w|UEFA Super Cup}}, and {{w|FIFA Club World Cup}}.
 
Per the previous contract, Ronaldo was tied to the club till July 2018. The Daily Mail reported that Ronaldo would continue to earn [[Euro|€]]365,000 each week.
 
This year, Ronaldo won the [[UEFA Champions League]] in {{w|Milan}}, scoring the winning penalty, and in July, he won the [[UEFA Euro 2016]] with Portugal. Almost a year ago, last season, Ronaldo became Real Madrid's top scorer breaking the previous record of {{w|Raúl (footballer)|Raúl}}'s 323 goals.
 
In the press conference, Ronaldo expressed his desire to play till the age of 41 saying, "I'm going to be here for another five years, but let it be known this will not be my last contract". When asked about his retirement, he said, "No-one knows what the future holds."
